TROMSÖ ARCTIC NORTHERN LIGHTS IN - NORWAY 5 DAYS/4 NIGHTS

(5 days/4 nights)

(Norway *****Winter*****)

Guaranteed departures

Tromsø is known as the Gateway to the Arctic, with the most Northern Lights in the world! It’s located in the middle of the Aurora Borealis (northern lights) zone and is in fact one of the best places in the world to observe this phenomenon.

What you’re about to read can decide how good the auroras you will see are.

At Dorothy Tours, our main job is to maximize your chances of seeing good auroras. Here’s exactly how to do it right.

If you’re not already following these key tips, we strongly recommend rethinking your plans.

Book several aurora tours — no one knows the best night

The Northern Lights are nature — not Netflix. You can’t press play whenever you want.

To truly experience the magic, you need time. Pre-book at least 4 nights in Tromsø to secure multiple chances.

If you choose only one or two nights, you’ll rely heavily on luck — and you should know that most guests who book just one or two nights don’t see the great auroras they came for.

Three nights is also a bit short, but still much better than just one or two. But yes, it can happen, and we truly hope you’ll be lucky.

A minimum stay of 5 full days greatly increases your chances, so if possible, stay at least five days — preferably longer.

Yes, we know most people don’t have that many days. In that case, you’ll need a bit of luck, and your expectations should match that.

No one can predict which date will bring the best Northern Lights. Weather forecasts change constantly, and the solar particles that create the auroras are still inside the sun days before they reach Earth.

The Kp index isn’t particularly relevant here. Tromsø lies directly under the aurora oval, and the Kp value mainly shows how far south the oval expands — not how strong the lights will be for those already beneath it. We regularly see bright auroras even when the Kp index is only 0 or 1.

The only thing that matters is time in the dark — waiting and hoping.

The tour starts with a 95-minute scenic transfer from Tromsø through beautiful Arctic fjords and valleys to Camp Tamok. Upon arrival, guests are divided into two groups. While one group goes dog sledding, the other enjoys lunch and meets the huskies — then they switch. Each sled is shared between two guests; one drives while the other sits and enjoys the view, and halfway through they change places. The terrain is mostly flat and surrounded by dramatic Arctic landscapes.

Warm clothing, boots, mittens, hat, and a hot meal are all included, and English-speaking guides ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

The total duration is about 7 hours (09:30–16:30) with meeting point at Tromsø Havn Prostneset, Samuel Arnesens gate 5, at 09:15. Accommodation in a 4-star hotel in Tromsø.

Day 4 Day tour to Senja Island Tuesdays & Thursdays or Snowmobile on Mond/Wedn & Frid and Fjord tour on Sat/Sun

Breakfast at the hotel. Join us for an authentic and personal journey to the beautiful island of Senja with a local driver and guide who has deep roots and family connections here. Drive through the breathtaking landscapes of Kvaløya before taking the scenic ferry ride across the fjord to Senja – a stunning 45-minute crossing with unforgettable views. On Senja, explore some of the island’s most captivating spots. Our first stop is the distinctive, jagged peaks of Okshornan – also known as the “Devil’s Teeth.” This dramatic landscape offers one of the most iconic photo opportunities on Senja. The drive to Husøy offers a spectacular journey through dramatic and breathtaking scenery. Today, Husøy is a vibrant fishing village where tradition meets modern coastal life. Finally, arrive in Laukvik, a peaceful seaside retreat that was once a thriving trading post and fishing hub dating back to the 18th century. Here, you’ll be welcomed into a cozy and rustic dining room to enjoy a lunch before beginning  the journey back to Tromsø. On Mondays/Wednesdays and Fridays - snowmobile tour will be offered between 06.15 AM and 03.15 PM. Feel the rush of Arctic freedom as you ride your own snowmobile through stunning frozen valleys, wide-open plateaus, and deep silence. Perfect for first-timers and thrill-seekers alike – no experience needed, just bring your sense of adventure.

On Saturdays and Sundays we offer our Fjord Tour - It’s a relaxed and scenic experience visiting the most beautiful fjords and coastal villages around Tromsø, with opportunities to spot reindeer, sea eagles, and other Arctic wildlife. Duration: 10:00–15:00.
